Edvance, as architect-engineer for the nuclear island, is playing a central role in two strategic projects in the United Kingdom: Hinkley Point C (HPC) and Sizewell C. These projects illustrate the revival of nuclear power in Europe, driven by replication, innovation and industrial collaboration.

Hinkley Point C: Unit 2 Reactor Building Dome Successfully Installed

On 17 July 2025, the dome of Unit 2's reactor building was precisely installed using Big Carl, the world's largest land-based crane.

Key figures: 245 tonnes, 14 metres high and 47 metres in diameter, making it wider than the dome of St Paul's Cathedral.

This milestone marks the completion of the main civil engineering works and the start of the installation of electromechanical systems.

Replication: A Proven Model for HPC and Sizewell C

Thanks to the experience gained from Unit 1, Unit 2 is being built 20 to 30% faster. This improved efficiency is driven by design replication, prefabrication and integrated lifting operations.

Sizewell C, which is based on the same EPR design, will directly benefit from these performance gains, demonstrating the value of a standardised and replicable approach.

Sizewell C: EDF Reaffirms Its Commitment

On 22 July, EDF announced an investment of up to £1.1 billion in the Sizewell C project.

Edvance will once again be responsible for the engineering of the nuclear island, ensuring technical continuity and the transfer of knowledge and expertise gained through Hinkley Point C.

A Collective Industrial Achievement

More than 12,000 people and 1,000 companies, including many French partners, are involved in these major projects.

This collective effort is strengthening the nuclear supply chain and helping to prepare the future of the EPR2 programme in France.
